What are my option for powering my 430ex. I find it a pain in the butt to keep switching out AA batteries. Right now I'm only using Regualr Duracel batteries and I plan on getting some AA NiMH rechargeables soon.

I was wandering if the 430ex is able to use a battery pack instead of AA batteries?

not battery packs without actually modifying the 430 (and voiding the warranty). As for the NiMH, I use the energizers, and they work great. Only problem is they discharge slowly even when not in use. I have heard the Sanyo Eneloops don't have that problem nearly as bad. I just keep a set in the flash and one in the charger. Before going out somewhere that I plan on taking pics, I switch them out. And I still keep a set of regular Duracell alkalines in the bag for emergencies.

To my knowledge I don't believe you can use a battery pack.

I use rechargeable Energizers, 2500 mAh, and they do a great job as long as I use the standard 8 hour charger. The 15 mintue quick charger is great for when I am in a pinch for some batteries, but otherwise the other charger does a better job and the batteries last a good while.

I got an eight pack of Duracell 2650's. They last light years longer than standard alkaline and the refresh rate is great. I'm sure that any rechargeable batteries above the 2500 range would work fine. I use a 15 minute charger and haven't noticed any problems with them not lasting as long, but with 2 sets I haven't been in any situation where I haven't had enough juice.

You will be amazed at how much longer the rechargeable batteries last as compared to alkaline, I didn't think they would last much longer, but they definitely do.

Not just the lasting longer.... the recharge is much quicker. With standard alkalines, you're lucky to get a couple of shots before the flash holds you back. I have much less trouble with the NiMH in that regard. I can shoot bursts of 5 or 6 shots at about 1/4 to 1/3 power (typical shots) with no lag for recycling.
