I was taking a few snaps using my 9 month old Metz flash today and after one shot got a horrible smell. Looking at the Metz the right hand of the clear plastic looks a bit burnt inside. It carried on working so I'll take it for a look at tomorrow. Just wondered if this is common at all? I wasn't pushing it hard at all :(

ur metz 58 ? a friend of mine that owns this flash hasn't had any issue, but mine is actualy BROKEN due to the heat, seriusly just patetic.... another friend of mine had this happen to his metz 76. [ he send it for warranty and got a new 1 ]

i could actualy put my finger between both screen parts ( the screen splited in two on the middle of the screen )

here's how it looks : scary don't u think ?

mine is also sent in for warranty, ZOOM err... not shure if it was becouse of overeating, but i turned on my flash, it zoomed from 700MM to 24 MM , i took the white defuser out, put it back inside, and ZOOM error was on it, then for some reason the difuser was very hard to take out, and pop it in again... still zoom error, it might have been caused by heating.

also my difuser would pop out sooo easily, specially by accident... annoying.

i still remenber when i would turn on my flash, press the test button, and i would see smoke commin out of it,and with it, came this horrifying smell .

metz flash is so awesoome ... but when it comes to built yeah , disapoints, specially ON this screen burning thing.

i was suprised when i was with a 580 EX the other day, firing it at FULL POWER, and the screen wasn't even warm, and no smell comin out of it either.

another thing annoyin me is that it is very hard to find difuses for this flash. i just picked an umbrella and err an LumiQuest ProMax System

i'm also wondering when metz is gonna give us a new firmware so we can change our flash settings in camera.
