A couple of shots in series. Played spectator and took my finger off to see if shot went in and didn't catch the entire series :( . Oh yeah, the shot DID NOT go in LOL

Nice shots. I noticed that you have both the 1D Mark III and the 5D. Does the 5D help out in any of your shooting for basketball?

Thanks and much appreciated. I had to shoot with my 5D for the last game (Mark III in for sub-mirror fix) and really struggled with the slower AF vs the Mark III. I'll bring it to games though and use it for team huddle type shots with a 16-35. Make for some neat wide-angle / static type shots.

Thanks and appreciate the time to comment. I wonder if the draped background is affecting the exposure of the shot. Shooting ambient (As league rules dictate), this is a fairly accurate capture of the conditions in gym.
What are you seeing on your monitor? Again, appreciate the thoughts.
Cheers

again might be my monitor as I struggle with this at times as well. But they look beige to me, like a dull dirty white?
Sure it is because of the lighting to be honest.

I'm thinking the beige curtain in background is definitely not helping. Thanks again for taking the time to comment.

Crisp shots, Peter. For such a dark and gloomy gym, you and your MIII did well.

Thanks. I was thinking about something similar. I want the 5D for my usual candids and coastal landscapes. But I can't decide between the 40D and the 1DmkIII (or used 1DmkIIN) for some high school basketball I need to shoot for the first time (my 14 y.o. made the JV team this season, and there are strong hints she'll make varsity next season). I was hoping that the 5D could handle those situations just as you described so that I wouldn't need to constantly switch lenses.

Thanks Ronnie. I just wished I ran through the entire play, but tough playing fan vs photog sometimes ;)

Hmmm, that's a tough one to tackle. A used Mark IIN + 5D would make a great combo. The pair would cover any situation you run up against. With a possible new release of the 5D successor early next year, there should be a nice flood of real good used bodies to buy on the resale market. The 5D is a great camera, but definitely not the most optimal sports-wise. It's a champ for portraits, landscapes, etc.

Tell me about it. I'm in a position to be able to afford the 1DmkIII, but seriously wonder whether what I am going to shoot justifies the $3000+ difference with the 40D. If this were my livelihood, I would be purchasing a 1D body.
But I'm starting to think that the 40D, in combination with the 5D, gives me the most effective pair that I am willing to spend on (I'm looking at the 5D + 24-105 + Pro9000 package + rebates => I want all three items, so my effective cost for the 5D is around $1250 after rebates).
Sorry about the thread hijack. I'm off to the search function again to read up on 40D users and indoor basketball (or volleyball or gymnastics).

PeterG you don't have image editing enabled but I did a wb auto on one of your images and came up with something that might be better. If you care to see it let me know and I will post it

Great! I'm digging your version :) Nice to get another set of eyes on these. Firing them up on site for the team and sometimes don't get the opportunity to fine tune. Appreciate you taking the time Matt :)

ahh so you know what I mean as well :)
if you look at my galleries it is really hard to get really white people looking right when you correct the wb/tone.
It is one thing I hate to be honest. No matter what it seems like they are always to white.
