View Full Version : Dead pixels on A80?

I got an A80 for my birthday (middle of July), and had to return it to the store where my parents got it because it had a couple of hot pixels on the sensor. Well, since then, the store has burned down (!), and I've noticed that the replacement they gave me has 2 dead pixels. *sigh*
By "dead", I mean that one of them is always white, with the surrounding 8 pixels kind of a gray color. Isn't really noticeable in bright pictures, but it is in dark pictures (not sure how bad it is in prints...haven't gotten any from this camera yet). The other pixel shows red when it should be black.
Is it worth sending this off to Canon for two weeks over this, or are all cameras like this going to have dead pixels? Also, I haven't sent off the warranty paperwork for the camera yet (shame on me), so will Canon even take the camera? I believe I still have the receipt.
Thanks for any replies. It's not a huge deal, I'm just a little bummed that my camera isn't perfect, and with the prospect of having to go without it for any extended period of time. <g>

My A80, and my A40 before it did not have any spots like you describe.

I would deffinitly send it back, especialy if you want to be able to take that illusive perfect picture.

in long exposure, night time only shots, i notice about 2-3 pixels in one of my cameras. they can be touched up easy in photoshop.

I also have it on my A75. Night shots show a red spot in the image. Although it's fixed easily with PS, I still claimed the warranty.

So right now I won't have a camera for another three weeks

I would send it back if you see "grey" or brighter area around the dead pixel of your image. I noticed that my S50 has one dead pixel, but it's not spread largely so I'm satisfied and will touch up the single pixel if i plan on sharing it with people. Cameras with a lot of pixels have good changes of being imperfect.

Whoops, sorry it took so long to answer this. Thanks for the advice, everyone. I've pretty much decided to just tough it out and retouch the photos if necessary. It's really not a huge deal....just a bit annoying.
I appreciate everyone's help, though.
