I just got a D60 and a 512MB CF card from SanDisk and I found that I don't want to buy a card reader since I don't have a firewire port on my computer. I was wondering if anyone would want to trade a 1GB Microdrive for a 512MB CF card? If your interested, email me at clkgtr37@yahoo.com
Thank you

This might be a stupid question but don't you need a reader for a microdrive too.

It's not a stupid question. What difference would it make whether the microdrive was 512 or 1 gig? NONE.

Almost makes you wonder if there's something fishy.

I am actually the one that is wanting to make the trade. I wanted more memory, and it doesn't matter if I have a solid state of memory (CF card Type I) or a microdrive (Type II) since I will only be using the serial port on my D60. The reason I decided to make this offer is because I know there are a lot of people out there that are utilizing CF card readers that tend to prefer solid state cards because of the dangers brought about by repeatedly removing and handeling a microdrive.
Thanks

Just curious but why does the lack of firewire for the card reader cause you to want to switch? I, and others I know, use a USB connection for the card reader.

As I say, just curious.

It is more a combination of a few things that cause me to want a switch.
1. I would only go to a card reader if I had firewire because of the large gain in speed for my card/computer downloads. There is nothing wrong with a USB card reader, but with the peak of a 30% over the camera's serial port, I would rather keep my card in my camera and spend the money on something else.
2. I used to have a microdrive when I owned a D30 and absolutely love it. I wish I had 1GB again, because with the 512MB CF I can only get 66 shots (in RAW). 66 is a decent amount, but for a vacation where I like to just take my camera and not have extra cards to worry about loosing.

I just want to make a note here: All of this is my personal opinion, which does not make it right or wrong. Please don't take this post as an, "I'm right your wrong" post. It should be seen as one that highlights the differences in aproach to this art.
Thank you

Just out of interest, has anybody actually *had* problems with continually removing their Microdrive to take the pictures off ? Or is this an "urban myth" ?

I know they can't be as robust as a solid state device, but unless they are actually writing data at the time, I would have thought they should be pretty damn robust ?

Anyone know microdrives well ?

How did you come by the 66 pictures on a 512Meg card? That comes out to about 7.75 Megs a picture.

Sounds about right Gary - my RAW files seem to be around 5-8Mb on the PC ?

The Canon manual for the camera places the RAW images at 7.4MB a picture with the ISO set at 100 (which is what I use).
