i have a macbook 2.4ghz and I want to start using an external monitor to work on photos.
can someone suggest a brand that is inexpensive and good quality, also something that will work well with my mac? I would like to spend less than $350, and get a diagonal width of about 22" if possible.
any ideas?

I think it'd be kind of tough to get an S-IPS for that. I'm not ever sure if there are any 22" displays with such S-IPS. I am very happy with my Samsung 22" SyncMaster 225BW (TN panel). I'd think by now the 24" displays would be in the $350 range as well. You'll only be able to drive a 24" with your MacBook (at full resolution, 1920 x 1200) and you'll need the mini-DVI to DVI adapter (provided the display you get is DVI).

i've researched this over and over and eventually had to opt for the $500-$600 range. good panels are generally 24" and up. s-ips are hard to get and sometimes you don't get what you thought you were getting, panel-wise.
i opted for the BenQ FP241W 24-in. widescreen LCD, $579 on costco website, it's an MVA panel i believe. all kinds of inputs, DVi of course is one input.
stay away from TN for photo editing. make sure it says it can display 16 million colors and preferably 178 degree viewing angle.
or u can get a $250 20" TN and kick yourself later.

You could always go with a Cinema Display and know that all is right and good color wise... I am using a 20" cinema display on my 15" macbook pro and a 30" Cinema on my 17" MBP.
