i'm having problems with the computer recognizing the camera. i've used canon software and c1pro niether recognize the camera. maybe the cable is bad, i don't have another to check. canon does not talk about the usb cable only firewire (i think that the older style) please help soon!

I had the same problem. The firewire works fine. I think this is a feature not a flaw.

Are you trying to use the USB cable to communicate with your Camera?
If so then I suppose you have not considered there is a reason Canon only talks about the firewire cable for communicating with the Camera.
It's because only the firewire interface can be used for this purpose! :wink:
The USB interface was added for one reason and one reason only .. direct printing. All other operations involving a tethered camera require you to use the Firewire interface.
This is all documented in the manual.

I'm a little curious, please excuse the thread jacking :D
The 1DMKII is a professional camera, right? How many professionals print directly from the camera?
I think that USB port is a waste of space.

I agree.
It seems to be a last minute add on to support there direct printing "thing" (I can remeber what its called .. picbridge?)
Anyway.. all other communication is to use the Forewire port.. the USB port is for all intents and purposes,.. just a printer port :)
