Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, NYC today:

Stood and watched for ten minutes: not one donation. :(

(Yes, in case you're wondering my daughter went over and put a 20 in the bucket.)

I give a few $$$'s to those bell ringers.

I find it funny how people try to ignore them, and yet leave a 10ft space around them on a crowded sidewalk... :D

I like the shot but can anyone fill me in on what a Bell Ringer does (apart from ring bells, before cdifoto types it!)

I past by them all the time and rarely see people donate money

Maybe they should ring the bells constantly and accept donations to stop ringing them. That may work. More of an incentive.

I was in Chicago all day today. I gave a few dollars to the first one I saw, but the next 15 Salvation Army ringers didn't get any. Not to mention all of the supposed homeless.

Can't give money to everybody in the city that asks for it...

I don't live in an urban area, but I see plenty of the "ringers". I can't give everytime. I usually give the money to my son he can put it in.

They're soliciting charitable donations, most likely for the Salvation Army. It's something that the SA has done at Christmas time forever.

edit: This one is Salvation Army, the logo is on the sign.

Excellent capture Mark, offering the subjects some anonymity without detracting from the message. Like Drandtus, I give my son some change to put in the bucket, but soon we start skipping these ringers because there is just so many of them. Was this taken with the 24 - 70? Post more street photos please;)
