Pun totally intended :D
Why do they line the inside of these lens hoods with felt...there are times i think that canon does stuff just so they can charge us more, i feel like this is one of those things.

Be VERY happy for the flocking.
Look inside. Shine a flashlight inside. See any reflections? Now shine it on the outside of the hood. Bit of a difference, huh?
The flocking is an excellent light-absorbing material, and keeps wandering reflections to an absolute minimum. It's a mark of an excellent hood.
And it pays to keep it clean. A small lint roller is perfect. Patting it down with the sticky side of a piece of tape works well, but is slower.
I have 6 cats. I'm an expert in lint rollers. :)

I know all about that flocking. I was at the Dayton Air Show months ago using my 70-200 L f/4 . There was a bit of wind blowing that day. Some moron next to me was eating a damn funnel cake with powered sugar all over it. Wind took half of that crap and blew on my lens and lens hood.
Luckly I had my Rocket Blower which took care of most of it.

Very annoying. Smokers are as bad. Not only does their habit stink but I find their cigarette ash blows all over my lenses and camera.

That inside is soooo sexy to the touch - never mind the light absorbing qualities!
