Canon 6D

Went in my local Canon dealer yesterday and he thinks the 6D is going to be announced.
He is off to Las Vegas (camera show?) his tip was to keep an eye on Canons site over Xmas as it will appear on there first.
He was also saying there will be minor upgrades on the 400D to (I would have thought that a bit new).

I think your camera dealer is wrong, I see nothing new at Canon's site and it's 12/27 now.
I'd wait till end of Feb or maybe PMA at the end of Jan. IIRC for model releases.

The only exhibition in Vegas I know about is CES (Consumer electronics Show) which is generally focused on the world of TV & Video, Computing and Gadgetry. I'll be going this year once more, but unlikely that Canon will announce anything there - its not the best forum for them I suppose. Nonetheless, they are on the exhibitors list (www.CESWeb.org (http://www.CESWeb.org)), so anythings possible ... The show runs from 7th-11th Jan

PMA is the place where Canon (and other camera makers) will show their stuff. PMA will be at the end of January, and it is almost certain that XTi's replacement will be announced just before PMA.

Why would they upgrade 400D if its only minor upgrades, im not getting it for sure, what a wast of money that would be.

To make money. The 400D is selling for just over $500. If 450D is introduced, it can sell at $800-$900, significantly more than $500, which should double or triple the net profit from each sale for Canon. I might note that most upgrades in the xxD and xxxD series (350D->400D, 20D->30D->40D) are minor upgrades.

Of course, if you think Canon is ripping you off, no one is forcing you to buy 450D instead of 400D.

Well nothing released as let, does anyone know when the trade show (in Vegas?) starts.
I would have thought that for Canon to pay for a dealer to go from the UK that the guy must know whats going on at Canon.
