They wait, hoping someone would hire them for any kind of work. Lower Manhattan.

You mean people actually will pick these guys up and trust them to work for them!?

Very cool shot, though, I like your toning.

yes people do trust them to work. if the laborer does a good enough job, sometimes the person will come back tomorrow looking for him to work over the others.

I like the newspaper on the edge of the curb and the broken & patched piece of sidewalk. Cool.

These guys could use a lesson in packaging. You've captured the mood and idea here perfectly. The setting is as important as the subjects. No... no... it is all setting isn't it? Including the three guys who are doing a visual job interview for any passer by.

I use them all the time.day laborers get between $75-200 a day depending on what they can do.

we have a similar place to pick up day laborers we call "the buzzards roost"....there are some great workers but be careful not to get a B&E artist!

by law yes you do need papers, but i would say most day laborers expect cash. I wont use anyone without a #SS number and a green card. it just dosnt pay the fines are killer.

Thanks for the comments, all. Yes this is at the corner of Bowery and Pell, if memory serves me right. People actually depend on these laborers to do hard work.

Thank you, I thought the newspaper was a lucky touch :)

Thank you Ted - you really have a way with words. Much appreciated.

Thanks for sharing Steve. Most of them I believe do good work for the money.

There are actually numerous places here in NYC where day laborers gather. I am thinking of doing a photo series on them soon.

Thanks for looking and the comments!

Hi Aussie, this was shot in RAW, then desaturated a bit, and treated with a bit of D and B.

Thanks for looking all!
