Hi all,
Recently I got a Sigma 17-50 lens C$199, and i want to test it. Can anyone guide me as how to go about doing it?
Also the camera store said that i can get the EF-S 18-55 for around C$299 and the Tamaron 17-50 Di for C$399 i really don't want to go beyond that any suggestions ?
Thanks

Hi Psych,
welcome to the forum!
You might want to take a look at this thread:

It's a comparison of the Rebel kit lens and the Canon 17-40L. There is also some discussion about the issue of testing in general.
You might want to restate the figures you mentioned in US$, as more people (yup, even us EUROpeons ) will be able to grasp these...
Best regards,
Andy

Thanks Andy for the link, maybe i'll go for the EF-S 18-55. I guess i made a mistake by not going for the DRebel with the lens....

I picked up the 15mm F/2.8 Canon fisheye and on the Canon, it is an AWESOME lens. Don't let anyone fool you. GREAT wide angle lens and with a minimal amount of distortion. THEN, the best part. PTLens http://www.epaperpress.com/ptlens/ is the best program out there and they have a profile for the 300D and the 15mm 2.8 fisheye. GREAT combo and it takes away the distortion.
Here are a few samples WITHOUT the distortion taken away...

Thanks.. I need to do alittle processing on that last one but I really enjoy that lens. It can get REALLY addicting... Worth the money though. I have some REAL good pictures that I am working on of my brother holding our new born daughter when we took her back to Cleveland. WOW... I converted them to black & white and I have to do alittle brightness and contrast adjusting but I couldn't believe my eyes... This lens is WORTH the money!

Kenski,
nice pics 8)
I don't know the exact exchange rate for CDN$ to US$, but I suspect at US$ 550 (B+H, grey market lens) it's a bit outside the mentioned budget...

ya andy you are spot on... $550 is around C$750, so out of my budget, so i guess my choices are EF-S 18-55 or Tamaron 17-50 Di.
Has anyone heard about the Canon EF 22-55 i'm getting it for $80 but its not that wide

hi there
Have you considered some of the Canon wide angle prime lenses? like the 28mm, or the 20mm? They are great lenses, and they are not as expensive as wide angle zooms.

If your in a hurry, you can always buy new... But if you really look around, you can always find a deal. Primes don't break that often and have less moving parts so I don't mind buying used primes. When I'm going to drop $1600 on a 70-200mm 2.8 IS "L" glass though, you better believe I'm going to buy it NEW though... :)

I guess i'm still a long way from buying a "L" glass. Need to find some ways to make my investment payback :(
I'll probably think of buying a "L" glass if my pics get to the front page of National Geographic :D

Hey, did you see this one?

If you are looking for a good prime wide angle, here you go... F/3.5 isn't bad... If you want to hold out for the Canon 2.8 fisheye you would be better off but this is a decent lens... Alittle cheap feeling and I have heard that it is slightly soft up to 8 but if you are outdoors you won't notice it... OVERALL, VERY good lens... Good bang for the Buck...

Thanks kenski but in that case i thinj i'd stick with the tamaron 19-50 f/3.5 and is much cheaper than the Tokina and its brand new. Ok i guess 2 mm won't make much of a difference and anyway i can certainly step back 2 steps...

thats true! :) You will see, sometimes you can't step back though :) lol
I like Tamron.. I have the 28-300 MACRO and it takes some nice sharp images. It doesn't work too bad for the long range eaither. Tamron makes some decent glass. its not "L" but it will do lol
