Hi! I need to take a white sheepskin rug picture for a catalog. The interior setting has a huge window in the background. The room didn't have any lighting. It was about 3pm. The result of the picture - the background was very bright, creating glare on the floor and on some places on the rug. I didn't use any studio lighting. I have to retake the pictures. What should i do? Should i go in early morning? or should i go at night? Should i change the setting - with no windows in the background?

I am using Canon 10D camera. I can bring the lighting this time (I have 3 studio lights). Please give some tips. Thanks!

Hi Pinklady,

I don't have that much experience with product photography, but I think that taking the picture in front of a window is not the best idea. Maybe if you use fill flash (420 or 550 bounced off the ceiling) or your studio lights, it might help.

Best regards,
Andy

Bring your lights, and if there are drapes, draw them and shoot at night (or at least when the sun's not coming in the window).

If you blast the subject with the lights, head-on from the camera side, it won't be so good. If you get the lights around to the sides, then it will show the texture of the subject better.
