Dave:

We don't see much figure skating photos here :(, I like the shots themselves, a little less the black and white and softness (personal preference).

You have managed to get these skaters in great positions. It is very difficult to get them in their jumps clearly with their faces showing and not have the expressions on their faces very strange.

The forms that these skater have are also very good. They are well centered over their skates, upright and I really appreciate that the girl does not have a huge leg wrap.

The jump with the male showing the ice chips and rotational blur is excellent.

I know that the gymnists complain about poor lighting but I think that figure skating is as equally difficult to shoot well, with the poor lighting, terrible backgrounds with the ice and boards blowing out and exceptional speeds. Youv'e done well to get a great bunch of captures here.

Tks for sharing and Merry Christmas to you and yours,

Wow...a proper critique by someone that knows skating...Im mainly a hockey tog, so not too many jumps etc for me  . It was a chance to step out from under my rock briefly, to try something different I just wanted to do it "my style"

Thanks for the comments

Dontcha' just love that 300mm f/2.8? I think you could have shot at ISO 1600 or even 3200 and gotten a bit faster/sharped images although #3 and #4 are very impressive.

Hey Dwight...how are ya?

I tried some at those speeds but the grain killed it for me.....thats why I went for the more arty stylish approach, and kept the noise down a little.

300mm is just the most awesome lens...Im thinking of marrying it. It works for me and only paid for it once.....so much better than the current model...hahahaha
