Are they similar products with the end result being the same? I would appreciate the feedback as I don't have a editing program yet and I want to make sure I but the right one.
Thanks

you're comparing apples to oranges.... you can benefit from both of these programs.
Use Aperture for cataloging & raw editing, and Photoshop for pixel based editing, sharpening etc.
If it came down to one, def. go with photoshop.

I think they go hand in hand. I use Aperture to do simple adjustments like color, cropping, and other basic stuff like that. Photoshop comes in handy when I want to do some serious processing like skin editing. Have you tried downloading the trail versions?

I use both. Since CS3 came out, it's about 50/50 in use. With CS, I did about 70% of pp in Aperture, the rest in PS.

I haven't really looked into Aperture, but I've heard the better comparison is Aperture vs Lightroom. Ever since I started using lightroom, I probably do 70/30 between LR and CS3.

My workflow uses both, I use Aperture for organizing and RAW conversion (including basic edits like colour correction and sharpening). Then I go to photoshop for the heavier edits and touchups.

I haven't used Aperture, but does it offer a better sharpening solution than Photoshop? (USM, Smart Sharpen, etc)

I do USM in PS as the last step in pp. I never use it in Aperture.
