Anyone who doesn't think the holiday season slows down time isn't trying to do enough ... this fight card that I shot at the end of last month just went up on my website and I still have events to upload, sigh. I know some of you saw the two very short main events, each one round, on ShoBox, but probably not the undercard. All but one of the bouts is on my website ... the one left out was because it may have been the last fight by Priest Smalls, a very exciting guy but not the best boxer and I didn't want to show his defeat, sorry.

#2 The main event, James "Mandingo" Kirkland over Allen Conyers was thermonuclear from the first and only bell! James walked into a punch that floored him very early and there was a chance it would be soon over. But he got up, seemingly unfazed and attacked Allen like a freight train, knocking him down. Conyers managed to get upright, danced a bit and as soon as the ref started the round again Kirkland was all over him. Conyers fell again, into the ropes right in front of me (you can see me looking up with glasses with his foot in my chest), struggled to rise, fell over himself and almost out of the ring. This image is from the Eye-in-the-Sky™ as the ref stops the fight when Conyers was struggling to stand. One of him going out of the ropes immediately afterward is in my gallery.

#3 Alfredo Angulo over Meliksetian was another quick bout. Alfredo is an extremely friendly and quick-to-smile fighter who I chatted up prior to the weigh-in via an interpreter.

#4 Tony DeMarco isn't the fastest fighter and doesn't have a lot of flash at this point, but he seems technically very solid and can take a lot of abuse without it affecting him at all. He is also very friendly and was joking with Angulo and I (again via interpreter) before the weigh-ins about the "chloro" which I took to mean bleach ... he sported a stylish hair lightening and Alfredo was kidding him about how it might blind the TV cameras, although Tony's bout wasn't to be televised. Here he had just KO'd Brambila ... I posted an image of Brambila OOF behind the doctor's bench here a couple of weeks ago.

#5 Tony Ojeda is one of our local fighters. His trainer, Willie Flores, who runs Santa Maria Boxing Club as well as the Santa Maria PAL boxing program is a friend of mine for whom I provide images of both amateur and professional bouts at the casino.

#6 Bowie Tupou (back to us) from Tonga is an upcoming heavyweight. This is the second bout I've shot him. His wife, Georgia Jersey Tupou, comes with him and she is a joy to chat with ... very heavy OZ-style accent and full of life ... in fact, their whole team prides itself on being fun ... which doesn't slow Bowie down a bit ... his bout was also one round.
