I am getting the Error 02 when I try to use my Lexar 512 CF card in my DRebel. I tried the card in my reader and it seems to work; I was able to retrieve a few files from it and then I reformatted it before trying it again in the camera. Still getting the Error 02. I wrote to Lexar support and they responded with this:

Dear customer,

As per your email information , I believe that it could be a problem with the file format , Please try to download important images on the card using jumpshot after that you can format the card in FAT and try to format the card in camera once and try using it again , if still problem persists , please feel free to contact

My question is now to anyone here, as I haven't heard back from Lexar all day, what do I do to reformat the card in FAT? I haven't a clue! But I want to know.
Anybody?
Thanks.

It will be easier if you tell us which operating system your computer has.

For example, if it is Windows XP, then there is a way:
You have a CF card plugged into a card reader, and that is visible on your screen. You know how you did the format? Well, at that point, there are (normally) multiple choices for the type of format (FAT32, FAT16, or whatever).

Try going into the camera's menu. I think (from memory) it is the option all the way to the right at the very bottom. It says "format". Try doing that.

Edit: Push the menu button, then the right button 2 times, then the down button 6 times and press set.

That won't work as it won't let you display the menu if its showing Error 02. It happend with me and i had to junk the CF card .
On the other hand lacy if you have windows 2000 or XP you can try formatting the card using Fat 16 ot Fat 32. If it still doesn't work see if you haven't accidently bent the pins in the camera itself... seems impossible but it has happened to many.

Hey thanks you guys.
I am running XP. I have not bent any pins ( believe me I know a bent pin or two!) and my other card works fine.
When I use the card reader it just brings up a "Drive E" on my computer and displays the files that are on in the card.
When I formatted the card I just used a right click and picked "format".
I hope this info helps.

Ya that seems OK but what u do after u click format, Make sure u don't select NTFS. Select either FAT16 or FAT32

If you right clicked on Drive E, then it should allow you to Format. In the options under Format, it offers choices for File System. There, you should be able to choose FAT or FAT32.

Once you have successfully done that format task, then put the CF card back into the camera. If you are lucky, the camera can read it, and you can do the Quick Format that cameras do to set up directories.

Well I right clicked, chose FAT, then formatted it.
Put it in the camera, still getting error 02.
Hmmn...

That's bad luck.

You might possibly try the whole operation again, but it is more likely that the CF card is toast. You might try contacting the vendor again like you did before. This seems to have ruled out a simple format problem, so they may have to replace the CF card.

One more thing.

Did you try another CF card in the same camera?

It is possible that the interface in the camera is bad. That could be either the physical connector, or it could be the logic behind it. If a second CF card seems to malfunction the same way, then I would suspect the camera.

Yeah, I tried my other cards and they are fine. No trouble.
I will wait to hear from Lexar, they are rather slow on the uptake however!

You would think that a customer service organization would want to deal with these customer problems as quickly as possible to avoid a customer storm building up. In fact, they generally operate as slowly as possible. Instead of responding within one hour, they have probably found that if they delay the response by a day, then half of the customers will just go away. Then a day later, they will deal with the persistent complainers. But that saves them half of their work, or so they think. Unfortunately, customers will remember that for the next time they consider a purchase.
