Hello all,

I just upgraded my old 3mp camera with a Canon G9. With thoughts of possibly moving up to a DSLR in the future. I also plan to use the G9 for underwater pics.

Anyway, I an strictly an amatuer photographer. As a result, I don't want to spend $650 on an editing program.

Is there a good PP software in the $100 range that will do the majority of the basics to improve my pics. (Elements?) Does any software in this range do a good job with stacking or HDR?

I am using a PC.

Thanks
Ryan

You don't say if you are PC or Mac. (a few months ago I wouldn't have asked that question):) But if you are using PC, give Paint Shop Pro a try. Very powerful, much more user friendly, and cheaper. Elements is along the same line. Try both and see which one you like better. I don't know about stacking, but I think the newest versions of both programs have an HDR feature. I know lightroom and Aperture do stacks. if you are eligible for educators/student discounts, those programs would be in your price range.

Elements is very good as a starter, kind of photoshop lite. You could also download Gimp. It is a free pp program with many photoshop features.
