I have been trying to decide between the Rebel or the 10D(20D is no longer an option due to the cost). I am leaning towards the 10D for now. I was also thinking about waiting to see if the price drops with the release of the 20D.
I was wondering if I should wait to see if the price drops after the new year. I am also looking for suggestions as to what stores or online sites might have the best deals but will not try to scam me with hidden costs or upgrades. Any Suggestion would be appreciated :D Thanks!

I'd say that the price will remain approximately the same for w while now. It's just gonna be harder to get ahold of the 10 after 2-3 months.

Before spending the extra money on the 10D I'd ask myself, what does the 10D have that the Rebel doesn't and that I need? For me the answer to that was "nothing", so I got a Rebel and couldn't be happier (without spending a lot more money). :wink: And for the online stores I'd checkout ecost. I got mine there for about $908 with the kit lens and FedEx overnight. It shipped out the day I ordered it (at 11pm EST) and got to me within 16 hours. :D

10D's main advantage is that it focuses faster... and better.
Other than that, they're the same... except for the build and viewfinder of course. :roll:

10 seems more sturdy, but the Rebel is by no means unsturdy. You can also tell the 10D weighs noticeably more. I think the weight is part of feeling more sturdy. And as for focusing, I can't really tell a difference between the 2.

Don't forget about the buffer and FPS! It seems that most people who upgrade after the fact do so for the faster shooting capabilities and the 9(?) shot buffer instead of 4.
Is there really a difference in the focussing? I mean other than proper AI Servo.

If you REALLY want a cheap 10D wait for about six weeks. Then you'll have to avoid used 10D's falling from the sky! It won't be that all of a sudden the 10D is a bad camera, or a the 20D is an order of magnitude better. It just that there are any number of 10D owners who will want the new toy and will dump a perfectly good tool to get one.

I vote for the 10D, despite that I had a Rebel.
You have all the custom functions, you have a QCD (much more confortable to browse through menus), you have a magnesium body and a bigger buffer. The difference in price is worth in my opinion. The price will drop after the 20d will be introduced on the market.

Thanks to all!!! I hope the price is going to drop soon after the 20D floods the market. The one thing I noticed about the Rebel vs the 10D is that the plastic body on the Rebel feels cheap.

The information that the 10D focuses better than the DRebel is also quite novel to me.
Doesn't have to say anything ... I learn something new every day, and I remember far too little of what I learn :roll:.
But you are the first person that I remember that ever raised this point ...
... and I think I've read a fair share of 10D vs. DRebel threads here.
... so it would really be great if you could substantiate this with some backup information :wink:
Best regards,
Andy

IA servo still doesn't work with the hack. As for the buffer... meh :wink:

I'll be the first to admit that this can be very confusing :oops: :oops:

Doesn't really matter that much. Both of them have the same sensor, so basically they both can take decent pics.
10D is better. It's better by around 20%, cause it's free market and it's value is about 20%(?) higher.

Alright here is my recommendation. The major points that you might want to consider are the metal (black) body vs. the silver plastic and the 4 vs. 9 shot buffer.
You can install the hacked firmware will give you:
* Mirror Lock Up
* FEC
* The ability to set One Shot focus
* ISO 3200
* ability to control the size of embedded jpg with raw
* assign a function to the set button.
Now go to dpreview.com and look at the side by side feature comparision, figure out which ones you would pay extra for and subtract the ones that the hacks gives.
Good Luck!
