Hi,

now i am a proud owner of new Canon Powerhsot G6 and my first impressions are very well. Ok i only have a Nikon Coolpix 2000 before...

Well i am new to digital photography and want to learn how to shoot best images in different situations. How can i learn to configure my camera in different light conditions to make best photos as possible? Currently i am taking pictures with automatic settings but i think there are better results possible if i could learn what things i have to consider.

The second thing is i can't find the option to save my images as RAW with automatic settings. The manual says to press 'display', 'arrow down' and 'arrow right' to set RAW format. But it doesn't work on that way...can anyone tell me of course how to do?

Regards and thanks for help...

Good morning . . . I am new here, I must warn you, lol. On my G5 as I remember, I had to place the camera in the "P" mode prior to making this change. I could not shoot RAW in the Auto modes, only in the P, Tv, Av and etc.

Of course this could have changed on your newer model . . . hope this helps.

While you're learning your new camera, I recommend using the AV mode. Set your aperture to f4 and shoot away. Set your ISO speed to 50 or 100. For most conditions in decent light, you'll get good shots. When you don't, experiment with different aperture settings. Then try the TV mode and see what different shutter speeds do for you. When you have mastered the AV and TV modes, Grasshopper, only then will you be able to use the Manual mode. Forget about the other Auto modes.

To use RAW, press the "Func" (Function) button on the lower right. Then scroll down the menu to the very bottom, where you'll see the different resolution choices, including RAW.
