I've always been annoyed at my 430EX falsing and misfiring when using it wirelessly with my ebay RF trigger.
Well I just got a 580EX II and so far (touch wood) it hasn't misfired once! I haven't tried it over any real distance, but it looks like I can put off paying for pocket wizards for a little while longer! hahaha
The only problem is that it seems to sync slower when I'm slaving my 430EX. I have to shoot at 1/125sec or I start getting the edge of the shutter.

The flash you are using with your RF remote trigger shouldn't really have any effect on how well the trigger is working unless the problem is the one where the flash fires once and then doesn't fire again . If you've been getting misfires with the 430EX and assuming that the hotshoe adapter you were using with it was OK, you'll most likely have the same experience with the 580EX II, too.
And the same goes for the syncing problem.
You might want to do a side by side test with both the 430EX and the 580EX II before you start blaming the 430EX for all your previous RF remote problems. ;)

Whe the 580 is used for manual off camera master, the max sync speed is limited to 1/125, that's the way it's designed.

Could HSS be enabled?

HSS only works in ETTL, which requires a Canon master unit or the Canon Off Shoe Cord.

Lotto, where did you see this "max sync speed" spec for the 580EX? As far as I know, the only thing that limits the max sync speed of the 580EX is the camera body and/or the RF unit used with it. Or were you referring to the max sync speed of the eBay triggers and not the 580EX itself?

that explains sooooo much. I too was having that problem with my 430 ex slaved to my 550ex. and also have issues when using my rf trigger with both.

OK, I see what Lotto was talking about now. He was referring to when the 580EX, which is triggered by an RF unit, is used to fire the 430EX.
