Zoom Lenses for my 10D ??

Looking for a zoom lens to replace my 70-200 4.0 L, The 200 was leaving me too short too often so sold it. I am NOT going to invest into a L lens at this time but need to replace this lens for now. ($400.00 or LESS) I will be using the lens for sports and wildlife and will want decent size enlargements up to 8X10 shooting RAW

Any sugestions / experiences will be greatly appreciated.

I can't think of a single lens in that price range any longer in focal lenght that will give better results than your 70-200mm f/4 and a 1.4X T-con?

I had thought about that but will eventually go with one of the longer IS L lenses but for now just need something to fill in the few times I need the zoom. I am not putting down the 70-200 4.0, was a great lens but was getting very little use and when I needed a zoom wanted a longer lens.
