Hi all,

I've been googling to find my answer but I've only come up with half an answer.....maybe you can help further...

I have Elements 5 and I am not able to utilize the cloning and spot healing tools. I have only found out that this may be caused by other applications that utilize the "alt, click" command. Apparently, this can't be shared.
How do I go about finding which apps have this command? This seems like a daunting task.
Your help would be greatly appreciated- procedure, websites, etc. would be a great help!!!!

I you don't have the other applications open it should not affect the use in Elements. Are you trying to do it on the background layer? Some of the tools will on work on an adjustment layer.

Thanks for the quick reply..... Elements is the only app. running, and what is your definition of an adjustment layer? Sorry for the dumb question.

Elements locks the "background" layer for a lot of adjustments. Sort of a way to protect you from yourself. If you chose Layer/New Adjustment Layer and then Levels, Hue/Saturation etc you should be able to use the healing tools on the adjustment layer. You may have to go into view to turn on the layers palette to see them.

The clone tool should work on any layer background or other wise. Make sure you caps lock is not on!
Other wise you could reset the tools.

Make sure you are working with an 8 bit file, if you've just converted your RAW file to a TIFF it is likely still 16 bit.
