I am going to um England, as my other post would reflect. I seen a burner with card reader in a photo magazine and then searching on the net I found a couple but none are in mainstream stores, does anyone have one? One of them said you could use it on batteries. Can I buy one easy in England or does anyone know where to buy one here in the USA???

Don't waste your time. Buy yourself what’s called a "Super Digibin". It's a hard drive system that will read your Canon flash card directly by plugging it in to the drive. It comes in 20 or 40 gig size, is battery operated and can be charged in your car or wall outlet. If you have the plug adaptor for the charger, it will switch to European current automatically. :D  I have had mine for two years and it works like a charm. Interface to your PC is via USB.

I would recommend the Vosonic XDrive II or XDrive Pro which is out now.
It is a hard drive based card reader/copier.
I have been using it for a while now with no problems. It comes with a 110/240 Volt DC adaptor so will be fine in the States and in the UK and if you shop around a little, you should be able to get one with a car adaptor as well.
You can read a full review of the XDrive II on my site here:

There are plenty to be had on Ebay where I got mine and many stores stock them or similar systems too.

It really depends on your opinion of 'assured backup'. I have used the Apacer Portable CD burner for many trips and found it superb - instant 'permanent' copy of your originals. Very cheap media - unit cost for burner depends on model and facilities (LCD screen etc) but range from £190 - 220 in local shops. Li-on battery works well but you can charge and use at same time. USB 2 and faster upload than my USB 2 card reader.
Suspect most posters here prefer HDD but not me...
