When it says on the specs for the 30d " Compatible Memory Cards CompactFlash (Type I & II)"

Does that mean those are recommended for the 30d? Or can you use versions of the memory cards like, Sandisk Extreme III 2.0 gig?

I am only asking since I have recieved alot of memory cards for x-mas and just want to make sure I can use them without being a problem otherwise they said I can return it for what I need.

Thanks!
Eric O.

PS. Sorry about such a silly thread, Im just making sure though. If I remember right doesnt ExtremeIII mean how fast it writes to the camera and then from the camera to computer?

CF Type I and II have nothing to do with Extreme III or IV. Those are the manufactures model numbers, the CF type is most always compatible, look at the card specs. Extreme III and IV should work just fine.

Any modern day CF cards will work fine on your 30D. No worries.

As for type I and II:

Type I and Type II

The only difference between the two types is that the Type II devices are 5 mm thick while Type I devices are 3.3 mm thick.[3] The vast majority of all Type II devices are Microdrives and other miniature hard drives. Flash based Type II devices are rare but a few examples do exist. [4][5] Even the largest capacity cards commonly available are Type I cards and most card readers will read both formats with the exception of some early CF based cameras where the slot is too small and some of the poorer quality USB card readers with the same problem.
