I'm sure this has probably been suggested in the past but a search didn't bring anything up so I thought it was worthy of a new topic:

Would it be possible to have a flag for the US and the UK to distinguish between the For Sale topics and save time when looking for gear? Another forum that I'm a regular on (www.bit-tech.net (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/www.bit-tech.net)) has this in place and it seems to work quite well.

All thoughts welcome...

It's already in place. Take a look at this (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=4527355&postcount=1). Look at #1

There's me shot down slightly then!

I was thinking of a small pic of the flag but that probably counts as excessive laziness! ;)

That would require some modification to the forum which Pekka probably is not interested in.

But the next version of vBulletin provides some new features that can be used to help categorise ads. At this time though we don't know how we would make use of these features.

I see what you're talking about. Didn't mean to shoot you down.

I am concerned that you can only think in terms of the US and UK.

There are other countries represented on this site.

Sorry, didn't mean to upset anyone!

I think it's fair to say that the majority of users are from the US and the UK though but obviously the principle applies to all other nationalities too!

Edit: Actually, maybe it's not fair to say! (I'll stop digging now...)

The poster would have to add the flag manually and as most still don't add eg. FS UK:, FS Worldwide: or whatever then I can't see them adding a flag either. It should happen as in their interest. I only open UK ones now so if someone hasn't added their country of sale they lose a possible buyer.

If Pekka would be interested in making these kind of changes it could be done automatically. For example when I used phpBB as forum on my business related website I had applied a modification to the user profile where the member once choose the relevant flag. Then that flag would be listed in the profile. If such a modification existed for vb it could be possible to include that in the title of the thread.

Hmm. This got me thinking. It might actually be fairly easy to do this on vb with minimal modification. (That doesn't mean that Pekka want to do it though - I am just thinking out loud).

I'm in the same situation so if a flag was to be automatically applied (or even just the letters) it'd make the For Sale forum much more accessible

Since many people don't even fill in their location in their profile (hint, hint, OP), I don't think we'd see them entering yet another info field except under duress.

Agreed ... filling the location field would serve the same purpose in many cases.

Even if it's nothing else other than country.

Pretty simple...

lol - yeah, right - how many of the Location fields are close to accurate and how many are attempted humour?

You would still have the same problem.

If, really, it is a problem.

I just go to the ads in there that suit me. If there's a location in the subject, I'm grateful. If there isn't, I skip it. As Dave said, it's in the sellers best interests - they are the ones who design and post their advertisement.
