so i just got my 5d from lensrentals.com (http://lensrentals.com) for this coming weekend. everything looks very similar to my 20d, minus the obvious differences like spot meter and iso increments. is there anything you could suggest that might help me with this new camera? i also rented a 15 fish and the 24-70L
are there any custom functions that you like with the 5d?
thanks in advance :)

Don't be afraid to use 1600 and 3200.

yea well, i hope that is a given. how is the new one treating you? have you not gotten a fisheye for it yet? when are y'all getting in town.

i'm not afraid to go that high on the 20d. i won't have to go over 1600 for this shoot though, and hope to keep it under.

I don't know from personal experience, but be mindful of the buffer if you tend to machine gun. The 5D is supposedly a little slow getting images through the buffer. I think it's pretty similar to the 20D/30D other than the obvious differences. C.Fn-04 is the same if that means anything to you. ;)

For pics of the kid and dog, it's been very nice. Haven't taken it to a show yet, so NYE will be the first.
Have not gotten a fish yet. I have my lens allocation for '08 already planned out, and that's not on it at the moment.
We get in on Saturday (29th) some time, not sure when the flight lands. We're doing the family thing w/ Stef's sister on the first couple of days, but head your way early on the 31st if y'all don't have dinner plans pre-show.

we've got a pretty packed schedule. i'm shooting the coctail party at the roxy, and then the show. 30th at philips, then i have to work the day job on the 31st before the show. are y'all staying in midtown? i work next door to the fox, so maybe lunch would work out. i know we will both be super busy, but give me a call when you are around.
i almost wish we were going to the fox. if panic wasn't giving me all this access, then we would probably be there. the addition of the nmas is huge.

You know, people seem to say that every year, but no one ever seems to learn.;) But I hear you, Derek Trucks' people are so good to me, it's not even a decision I question every year. Allstars or no Allstars, it's a great show, though.
We're going to be up in Dunwoody (her family lives off Mount Vernon, 5A off 400) so nowhere near Midtown.

we ran into derek and susan at the stevie wonder show a couple of months ago. ashley walks by and stops and then let's out a "OH MY, my celebrity sighting of the night" they both laughed. they were only a couple of rows behind us and were getting down the whole show. then i had a chance to chat with derek while we were both waiting on the wives to come out of the restroom.
but like i said it's the access that is taking us to panic.
are y'all staying in dunwoody 31st? what time to you plan on getting to midtown?

Yeah, we'll be up 400 the whole weekend. Not sure what time we're heading down. We're having dinner w/ Chew on the 31st, so we'll probably be down there a little early.

we don't have anyone staying in the extra bedroom this year. if y'all are not wanting to drive after the show then you are welcome to crash there. 10 blocks from the fox. we'd had to coordinate getting you a key, but y'all are more than welcome. give me a call if you're interested

well to answer my own question, the full frame is a completely different beast. you thought you knew your lenses with a crop body, until you get them on the full frame. the 70-200 can get a full body shot. the 17-35 is almost too wide for the full stage shot.
this was my biggest adjustment; i had to relearn what my lenses were capable of.

Took me a while when switching from 10D to 1DMk2 as well ;)
