This simple G3 - full zoom seems to be a nice image of nature's "elasticity" !
- last year this scene was alive wsith purple loosestrife, but
- for most of this cold dry summer the pond had dried out
- this week, following a record 4 inches of rain, it filled again
- now, a few marsh plants that are the subject of the photo have prospered form the dry season

QUESTION:
Wold you crop this ? How?

PS: The only other idea that I have is to return with a six foor ladder and thy to shoot higher so as to exclude the background shoreline.

I don't think it needs to be cropped. I find the blown out or almost blown out water on the right side distracting. Could you get some of the shoreline in the bottom of the picture? I feel like it needs to be anchored/framed.

JOHN

Thanks .. it is very helpful to receive your advice.
I can go back almost any nite for the next week (last week of summer!) or so and retake the shot.

* I had not thought about the over-exposure. But you are quite right, the soon to set sun was up over the right hand side of the lens and I had to try to shield same with my right hand. (I want to build some kind of a lens shield for the G3.).

* Anchoring may be possible. THere are heavy shoreline reeds almost everywhere. This outing I was in sandals. However, and I was thinking of taking my rubber boots which would allow me to get up a bit closer.

I I do any better I will add a new shot to this post!

The cropping looks good. Good subject, well framed, good aspect ratio.

I wouldn't change the cropping.

Thanks Don:

As it turns out, I just walked the dog by this pond about an hour ago
... the water had already receded. I started to doubt that I would get he same simplicity in the subject water/leaves. So I may be stuck with this -- which sounds like it could fly.

That said, I am about to review my "takes" cause I framed the shot and I ought to have a "dark" one. But I recall using that and jacking the whites via Levels . So I may redo and play down the brights.

Anyway it was just a quick P & S at the sort of ballet that was going on. I was impressded with the quasi-symmetery et al.

Hey Don -- what are you sailing these days? I have a GP 14 (marine plywood in the garage that has been there for 15 years -- starting the day that I got into windsurfing!

Howie,

My sailboat is a Hunter Legend 37.5. I sail the Gulf of Mexico, but I'm staying away from IVAN right now. :D
