My wife bought my a G9 for Christmas - a fun little pocket camera to compliment the 30D she bought me the previous year.

I am not looking to get any major accessories, I have my 30D for macro/telephoto/etc. But, I still want to 'make it mine.'

I remember hearing that Canon had some color changing accessories, and after a little searching found the "Canon Ring Accessory Kit" RAK-DC1 http://estore.usa.canon.com/Specification.asp?ITEM_ID=37297

The photo shows that there are three different colors of 'rings'. That particular store page says it is compatible with the G7 & G9. However, a different page on the Canon site says that they actually go on the end of an extension lens that you can buy.

I also found something called the "Canon Bayonet Ring Kit" BRK-DC1 on eBay, and several other sites, that has the exact same picture.

My question is: Are these direct replacements for the black+silver ring on my G9? Has anyone bought either of these kits that can comment on them? (or maybe has two left over since it is a 3-piece kit that they might want to get rid of?)

I can't comment on what Canon is selling based on your link, however, that is an interesting link for I never knew it even existed. Regardless, there is a black ring replacement made by Richard which changes the silver lining of the current black ring to a complete black ring.

Here is his site but there are others on here if you search this forum. (http://www.mycanong7.com/html/g7_accessories.html)

Here is another one.

I can't see how these would work? I looked at the link and they just look like cosmetic replacements for the standard bayonet ring. For filters and add-on lenses you need the extension adapter (I just bought one from Lensmates and love it for holding the camera feel, protection, and flexibility for filters. I think they are cosmetic decoration as replacement, not for adapting filters and lenses.

I don't think the OP is asking about buying extensions to attach other lenses like lensmate provides. He's asking for cosmetic changes, hence, the other links provided.

What's not to get? Buy the canon versions and you can cosmetically change it with different colors, buy the one from Richard and you can make it completely black...

I went ahead and bought a pack, if they work great if not I'll deal with the return. The thing that was 'not to get' was that three of the four Canon webpages I found said that these were for the ends of the extension adaptor - implying that they were not the right size to just put directly on the camera.

I read the information on the Canon site and feel that the writer of it doesn't know the proper description of the rings. These do not furnish the basis upon which to attach the things they mentioned. The rings need to be removed in order to attach the things they mentioned. Rings are for cosmetic purpose only on a camera that does not have any adapters or filters attached to it.
