Well, my good 19" Sony CRT just died, the colors are completery messed up and it's soft. Do you think it can be repaired ? Anyway, I'd like some toughts on choosing a new one. I don't have a lot of brands to choose from where I live, most monitors are HP or LG or Asus, there aren't any dells for example, at least where I shop. The monitor would be used for watching movies, pp, internet, gaming, a bit of everything, what I want is a quality monitor that doesn't get tiresome, like some cheapo tft's I see around. What do you think of these ? ( scroll down for the specs )

I will be getting the 21" version of the samsung monitor in the mail in the next day or two. I'll be sure to let you know how it works.
In my experience with monitors LG makes quite good ones. We use Samsung monitors at my school and there are a fair amount of issues with the colours. One thing to consider when purchasing monitors online is dead pixels. Most companies will not do anything about them unless there are a number of them in one particular area. I have purchased well over 4+ LCD monitors in the past 2 years. Nearly all of them had at least one dead or stuck pixel.

Just a heads up :)

Well I'm buying it on a store, so I can return it easily. I was kinda leaning towards hp or samsung because I haven't heard very good things about LG's, and a guy I know had a lg laptop and a few months later it had a few dead pixels. Maybe laptops have nothing to do with stand alone monitors tough.

If it was me I would stick with LG or Samsung. I have never heard anything about the HP monitors which is what would make me feel a bit skeptical about them.
I currently have two 19" LG monitors in my room and I have been pretty happy with them.
My only issue with them is that they are identical monitors and the colours still come up quite different when you compare one to the other.

My 19" CRT died yesterday, after 8 years... I picked up a Samsung 2232GW 22" which is nice. But I hear TN panels (which this is) aren't that good for colour. So I'm considering the Samsung 244T 24" because it's a S-PVA panel and it gets some great reviews. However it's twice the cost and I'm not sure how much better it would be.... I have 30 days to return this one if I want to swap it out..

I have the HP w2207 now for about four months now and i am very happy with it. It has 5 viewing modes to choose from. I think for the price it was a goog buy. pos

UPDATE.

I just got the monitor and it's pretty awesome thus far. No dead pixels or anything and it even came with a nice little cloth to clean the monitor.
The only issue is it looks utterly horrible if you use the monitor at any resolution that is under the native resolution. Odds are that isn't an issue for most people tho. In my case it is because my dad is using the monitor and needs everything to be a bit bigger then usual.

i just got the samsung 21.6 " lcd, nice once i tweaked it don't use there software it really messed up everything i had to scroll all over the place to get at anything on the laptop. 2 issues though, the monitor is making a humming noise when i first start up (maybe a warm up issue)
even thought my resolutions is the same as before on the laptop the icons are bigger and kinda fuzzy, any kind of text editor ie email is big and fuzzy?
reolutions are as follows
monitor:1600x1200
lappy:1200x800

The fuzzy buttons are because the lcd monitor is not set to it's native resolution.
Set the monitors resolution to 1680x1050
Hope that works.

Well, I ended up getting the HP. Has anyone encoutered this problem :
My graphics card doesn't have an hdmi output, so I had to buy a dvi-hdmi cable. Thing is, if the monitor goes to sleep, it won't turn back on, it says there's no hdmi input, I have to reset the pc to get it to work again. Are my gpu setting wrong ?? What should I try ?
