Has anybody been able to set the AF Frame to "center" (ie not the 3 frames) when in Auto mode and have it remember that setting? I've read through the manual and it appears that you cant do this. I do have the latest flash of the camera and it would seem to me that it sure would be a nice feature for it to remember that setting. Any ideas or information on this? Your response is much appreciated!

The short answer is, no. AiAF is always on in Auto mode--it's pretty much the only reason to be in Auto.

What you want to do is switch to Program AE. It's virtually the same as Auto, in that it selects the shutter speed and aperature for you, but it allows more manual control over the camera. If you choose not to change any settings, they'll stay at the defaults. As for the AF frame, AiAF is disabled and the frame will always centre unless you set it to left or right.
