I just downloaded the trial Corel Paint Shop yesterday and have no idea what I am doing. I just attempted a collage and need major C/C. Learning all of this definitely takes alot of patience. :D

Also, how do I make a collage using a plain background or some type of background other than another picture?

IMO I would get better pics of the people ie faces and I would put a very small border around those pics. There are a lot of personal preferences that you can change. for me I would have to have the pics go from smallest to largest or Lg to Sm etc. I think I have too much OCD for this hahaha I also don't like the 2007 large, black, and at the bottom. I would put it :The Branighan's '07" Like I said before this is all pref to you

I know the pics aren't the best, I was trying to make due with what I already had uploaded from Christmas :)

I had 2007 at the top but then it seemed "uneven" so I moved it to the bottom :)

Thanks for your suggestions, like I said, I need all the help I can get.

To start a new blank page just click on the white page icon with the corner turned down. It's on the left of your main task bar, usually at the top of the screen. Set size & resolution, select Raster & uncheck Transparent, pick a Color. That should get you started.

I'd flip-flop it. B&W background and color people photos.

I would remove the border around the image. That effect can look decent but only in a few cases in my opinion.
I would suggest downloading a trial of photoshop and check out http://www.good-tutorials.com (http://www.good-tutorials.com/)
They have tutorials to teach you how to do just about anything.
:D

I would like to do a collage similar to this style

Anyone know if this is something I could do or is it upgrades/extras to regular software?

Thats doable but it won't be easy for someone thats new with photoshop.
I would give this tutorial a go, it's quite simple and the final effect is pretty neat.
