I've just received word that my 20D ought to be despatched to me on Tuesday, 21/9/2004, to reach me the next day. :D

I thought that it mught take longer to get them here in the UK. Here's hoping that I was wrong and my new camera arrives in the middle of next week!

That's over £10,000,000!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Personaly I wouldn't want to have one of the first of the line, still that's at least 8,000 who are gonna field test it before I think about getting one next year.

Either the first batch delivery date has been brought forward or - more likely - I'm in the second batch. We shall see.

I'm relatively new to DSLR's, but noticed that the 20D became widely available in 2-3 days since its introduction.
Is that common, did the same thing happen to other models.

Thanks

It most certainly did not!

Then Canon must have done things differently this time. Maybe produce a lot before the official introduction.

They certainly seem to be reaching the retailers in good numbers. :)

What are Park like for reliability? Customer after sales care etc? I went into Jessops Solihull yesterday and none of the under 21's even knew about the 20d. Hardly inspiring. Park's prices seem good. ANY comments would be welcome. Thanks.

I've used Park cameras a couple of times and found them to be reliable. It's best to check stock availability before you order online though, their low prices seem to mean a bit of a wait sometimes. The good news is their communication (phone & email) is excellent which counts for a lot in my book. I'll certainly be using them for future purchases.

Agreed. I've ordered all manner of hardware and consumables from Park for the last 2 or 3 years with no problems. I do wish that they would get a proper online ordering system! :)

My 20D, BG-E2 and extra BP511A arrived today, as promised by Park. :D

I haven't had time to really play with the new camera yet, but I did try one thing; shooting burst mode (Large Fine JPEG) with a Sandisk Ultra 1GB CF card, the camera shot 31 photos at full speed! I guess that shows how fast it is writing to the memory card! :)

The maximum number of shots possible in each burst depends (obviously) on the size of the written files. To prove this, I shot a full burst on manual focus with the lens cap on. The practically pure black images compress to very small files. It took an astounding ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY ONE photos! at 5 fps! Although useless, it shows that the background writing really works!

RAW seems limited to 6 shots at full speed, whatever the shooting setup. :(

Here's a link to a full sized (3504 by 2336, 3804KB) large, fine JPEG right out of my 20D. It's a photo of one of my lightsabers.

It was shot at f/3.5 through a 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 at 28mm. Oh, and at ISO 3200. :)

For ISO 3200, I don't think that the noise is too bad! :)
