Ok guys I know I screwed up selling my 70-200 f/4L and will replace it BUT here is my question.

I sold it on Ebay, every thing went great possitive feedback both ways, now she claims she is having focussing issues which she may be. It was great for me and I wish I had never sold it, it was 6 months old and it sold for $525.00 plus $15.00 shipping and included a Hoya MLC UV filter.

I offered to buy it back for the $525.00 as long as it checked out and still worked fine, but she is wanting me to pay her the money then she will send it back, I have no way of knowing if she damaged the lens or what. What should I tell her?

I use eBay a lot, not only for photographic equipment. I also buy and sell frequently. If the lens worked when she received it then you are not at fault. Canon's warranties are not tranferrable, at least to my knowledge. I would just buy a brand new 70-200 from B&H or any retailer. That is just my personal opinion on the matter.

Do the transaction through an escrow service. The funds will not be released until the item arrives in good working order. Good Luck.

I thought of this but then if its not working properly, would there be a problem me getting my money back, I cant help but look at other companies procedures, return the merchandise, when inspected you get your refund. I have given her plenty of info, name, address, home and work #'s etc. I have 100 % possitive feedback on ebay and with lots of items over this value. If I were in the scamming business she would still be waiting on the lens from the first transaction.

I am leary because why did she leave positive feedback and wait till now to start telling me that the focusing is not working right. I would certainly check this the day I got it, and not leave possitive feedback with out being sure. I cant help but wonder is she has accidently done something wrong, or damaged it in some way.

I regret selling the lens after finding out that the 100mm I wanted to gain by getting the 75-300 IS will sacrifice picture quality like it will. But I guess if she is not willing to trust me after offering to refund her money, then I will go ahead and order a new one and take my losses and learn.

The kicker to the entire deal is this, I have a chance to get some work at a soccer game this weekend... what ever I do will probably have the lens by Saturday weather it be my old one or a new one.

How long has she had the lens?

Avoid the situation where she has the money back AND the camera. Way too risky. I tend to agree with Hank: you're under no obligation to return the money at this point.

She needed it for a horse show that Friday so I 2 day shipped it to make sure she had it in plenty of time. She has asked me several questions on what focussing setting I used etc, I still am assuming it is focusing problems with her 10D, the lens was tact sharp for me, I had posted many pics on here with it.

So she's had it 3 weeks and is only now claiming it's faulty? Something smells here. I would not refund her money or take back the lens.

Here is a link to some pics I took with it shortly before selling it, these were croped out of the center of the frame, this is what made me THINK I needed a 300mm :?

These were unsharpened pics, when sharpened in PS are tact sharp.

Sounds to me like she dropped it and now she wants to off it. Tell her I know a very good repair service in the Chicago area that has been in the business for 28 years and has several LARGE accounts. They have been trusted by many large companies and large names so if she would like to send it in and have them take a look at it I can give you their name. They are a Canon Authorized Repair Dealer. Send it in under your name at least. Ed, the Senior tech there, will try every way to make canon pay for it but if he thinks in ANY way that canon will try to claim it has been damaged, he will let you know. His rates are pretty good and only charges what parts cost and doesn't add on crazy %'s to part costs... + labor of course...

Better example and anyone can use metadata to see it was taken with that lens.

I have sent her all the warranty cards, and receipts and told her to use my name and her address. I did have that concern that if she has given too much info to Canon that they may give me a hard time if I did refund her the money saying it was sold and resold thus voiding the warranty.

I guess I am trying too hard to keep someone happy, I just figured if the lens was in the same condition as I sold it, would be glad to have it back home....

I will do my homework before selling another lens

As a eBay seller I think you have done more then enough. I mean come on already, she had the lens for 3 weeks and then says it doesn't work. It just doesn't sound right. She can't take back her feedback so I would just leave it at that. If she threatens you then I would contact eBay. It is a bitch to find their customer support number, but I just googled it and found it very quickly. Funny thing was that the eBay "customer support" representative asked me where I got their number from. That is the only crapping thing about eBay, their support is horrible. Good luck!

I just got a reply from her satating she can not get me the lens by this weekend and to purchase a new one. I have save every email so can verify I offered several times to purchase the lens back and to refund her money. I have a feeling its her 10D anyways and Canon will take care of that. Well thanks everyone for your feedback, wanted to make sure I was not being too hasty. I have been on the end of a bad transaction, was sold BS and of coarse ebay and pay pal would do NOTHING. I was trying to resolve the issue. I figure she either knows the lens is find and doesnt want to loose the deal she got, or has dropped it and would only be wasting shipping $$ to send it to me.
