A few members from around the North West are meeting up in Salford Quays on Thursday ( 3rd January 2008 ) for a night shoot.

Great location - lots of water / modern buildings / lights / bridges etc etc...

Anybody fancy joining us?

Looks like I'm about the last to check in with some results.

Really good to meet you all, a really pleasant evening (if a little chilly) and I am looking forward to next time.

I haven't been through them all yet, but these three jumped out at me early on, I'm not sure that I have nailed the processing yet (the first one certainly needs a bit of magenta dialling out) but I wanted to get something posted before I hit the sack:

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c19/sandpiperphotos/lowryfront1.jpg

http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c19/sandpiperphotos/lowryfront2.jpg

The last one (for now) is definitely my favourite of the whole shoot, I think that the whole trip out there was worth it for this shot alone. Yes, there has been a little jiggery pokery with which windows are lit up. I couldn't resist the symbolism of crossing the bridge into the jaws of a giant 'creature'.

I don't think I'm alone in saying that It was a good night and enjoyed by all. The fears of meeting up with a bunch of weirdo's off the Internet were not realised and it was nice to meet all of you.

So, when and where do you fancy for the next outing? Day / night?

Chris.

Great night indeed,

I'm free most thursdays and thought that something every 3-4 weeks over a long period of time would be good.

A quick edit of the panno I was trying.

Yep fully agree Chris, I really enjoyed it, good shots, and it was nice to meet you all. I must admit to being a bit nervous about meeting a bunch of guys I'd never met before, but everybody was great. Picked up a few tips of a couple of you who were a lot more experienced than me.

Somebody mentioned Carr Mill Damn and the powerboat racing, but thats maybe when the weather gets a bit better. I'd enjoy another night shoot, hows about us Mancs coming up the M62 and 'do' Liverpool City Centre.

Working Friday and been a bit busy today, but I'll post a few pics in the next couple of days.

Cheers

Pete

Every few weeks sounds good to me. If anybody fancies getting out in between time, I'm sure there'll be a few wanting to join. I think Craig and myself are planning on getting out sometime in the near future and will post it when we know more.

love the panoramic by the way - post a bigger version when your happy with the edit - I'd love to see it.

Pete, I told you not to post anything that would make me blush.... Whats that.. Oh, your not talking about me.... :)

I'd enjoy another night shoot, hows about us Mancs coming up the M62 and 'do' Liverpool City Centre.

I'm up for that if anybody else is - I'd also like to have another look at the Quays or Castlefield in Manchester (canal / bridges / some more weird lighting) and perhaps when the sun is shining, a trip up the M6 to the lakes...?

Anybody esle got any ideas?

Anybody else fancy joining us?

MrCraigBerry

Hey Stan, Loving that shot mate, get the larger version up ASAP!

As Chris posted last, we are heading off somewhere next week for abit and will post when/where as soon as we have decided ourselves. That way, if you wish to come you may do so.

Liverpool sounds like a plan to me. Anywhere does really.

Hey again, all.

I've been a bit busy over the last couple of days, but I've now managed to sort out the processing on the shots I took at The Lowry (and fixed that magenta cast on the first one I posted above !).

I've stuck my favourite eight pics in a new thread, as I am after some C&C from a wider audience than will be looking at this thread. You can find them at:

and all comments will be gratefully received.

I think for tomorrow night Hewitt St junction Deansgate will be a potential meeting spot. There is quite a bit of parking around there and it's within spitting distance of Castle St dock which is heaving with steel structures and canal features and stuff. Will make a quick call to a friend tonight to confirm it's still suited and let you know unless anyone else has a better idea. It's dead easy to get too off Chester Road the Mancie Way or Regent Road. Or straight down Deansgate!

I have got the bug now, I am going to London with the wife in early April and she has booked a hotel near tower bridge - she didn't appreciate me saying "fantastic - great night pics"

Yea the last was my fave, i will re spot heal it, did it quick at dinner time. It was with the 17-55 which is a bit wider than your "brick", am looking at getting something even wider to go on my soon to be delivered MKIIn, yea i pulled the trigger on that one,:), something like the siggie 10-20 i know it's not bet on the 1.3 crop but it'll be great on the 30D.
Looking forward to coming over your neck of the woods, just need to dig out those locking wheel nuts....:)

Wheel nuts won't save the car!!!
I bought the 10-20 sigma but it fell through.
Now considering the 12-24 which should be ok if i move to FF.
Did I say if ? obviously I meant when!!

Yep, I was wondering that too?? I'm torn between the Siggie 10-20 and the Canon 10-22, I'd love the Canon, but obviously, the cost difference is a major factor and the Siggie gets good reviews.

If my Westfield is running in time - is it big enough for indoor karting shots!

Its ground level and about the size of a football pitch (ish). Sure it'd be fine for static shots, but not so sure about 'action' shots.

Considering it for what, you can't use it on the 1D, do you have another body not listed in your sig???

No, I don't have a 2nd body at the moment. I meant the 10-20, or maybe a fisheye. Something very wide as opposed to the 17-40.

By fell through I mean I paid my money and never got the lens sent.
In fairness it was all sorted and I got refunded.
I'm now looking at the Tokina 12-24 f4 also only for a crop camera but looks better than the sigma. I believe the sigma 12-24 is the only one suitable for a FF camera.

Chris the warehouse idea sounds good.

I'm still planning a return to castlefiels and wont shut up about it until i've got some good shots from there, I've also got a score to settle with an irate swan:lol:

Sounds interesting, what's it like inside?

With a view to (possibly) using the Westfield in there, is there easy access to mains power so we can use studio lighting?

Also, if we are using a sports car and studio lights, would people want to go the whole hog and sort out a model as well?

Like a Caterham (lotus) Seven, tiny two seater which can be ridiculously fast if you stick a big engine in it (the SEiGHT has a V8 in it and bu**er all weight). Also a great car for chucking around cones in a car park if you don't mind wearing your tyres out.

They have done a couple of other models I believe, I seem to recall one based on a Lotus Eleven as well, but these are also too small for me and much rarer than the 'seven' variety.

Hi guys

Gone a bit quiet recently. Who fancies another night out in Manchester? I'm suggesting Exchange square, the wheel is going to be there for at least another couple of months, there's also the printworks, urbis in the square next door (who's name I can't remember right now) and Manchester Catherdral is usually floodlit, not particularly brightly, but good enough if you're using a tripod, St Annes Sq is also pretty well lit if time allows, just more food for thought, I reckon there's some good interior shots to be had in Victoria Station. (Maybe a fallback plan if the weathers not too good). And car parking to be had on the old exchange station site (yeah showing my age, I know) opposite the cathedral.

Another Thu night? How about next Thu the 28th, or if thats a bit too short notice Thu 6th Mar?

Matthew,

As we've set the ball rolling this time, could we keep it Thu this time, and maybe Mon next time?

All,

Shall we go for Thu 6th Mar for Smirf, and as a couple of regulars haven't responded yet? Like ChrisR, CraigBerry and boywithnohats, has anybody got their phone no's/E-Mail addys? could they give them a shout?

Here's the car park: -

Car park (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=cathedral+approach&sll=53.485486,-2.244837&sspn=0.003945,0.011694&ie=UTF8&ll=53.485384,-2.245309&spn=0.003945,0.011694&z=17)

Exchange Sq isn't shown on the map, probably because it's traffic free, but for those that don't know it, if you make your way here: -

Cateaton Street (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Cateaton+street&sll=53.483896,-2.243764&sspn=0.003945,0.011694&ie=UTF8&z=16&iwloc=addr)
