Hi All,

Ignorance is no excuse but I'm hoping y'all can help me wrap my brain around the mechanics of buying and selling through the forums.

I've established a personal-level Pay Pal account with a checking account backstopping Pay Pal in order to be "Verified."

Now I see people buying and selling usually along the lines of "$xxx + 3% for Pay Pal."

I've been slogging through the Pay Pal help pages and I see that personal accounts do not have a transaction fee(?) So can I still buy and sell or do I need to upgrade my Pay Pal status?

I assume I'm bound by good consience to state that I'm working from a personal-level account so that means no credit cards, correct?

Am I missing anything else or do I have a basic enough understanding that will allow me to participate in buying and/or selling without screwing the pooch too badly.

TIA...

To accept credit card payments through Paypal as a seller, you must upgrade to a premier account. This means paypal charges the seller a fee (https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/UserAgreement/ua/USUA-outside#fees-policy) to accept the CC payment. that's why sellers ask for the 3% additional, although technically that is against Paypal User Agreement. but you can charge a 'handling fee" when you sell goods.

4.7 No Surcharges. You agree that you will not impose a surcharge or any other fee for accepting PayPal as a payment method. You may charge a handling fee in connection with the sale of goods or services, as long as the handling fee does not operate as a surcharge and is not higher than the handling fee you charge for non-PayPal transactions. But, can I still use a "Personal" account? I guess I'm wondering more if POTN cares than if Pay Pal cares...

POTN has no stake in how you pay, whether it be by PayPal, Money Order, Cheque, Nigerian Lottery tickets or goats & chickens
Your business is your business. You must come to terms with the other party to the transaction.
