Lowepro vs Kata

I'm trying to decide which backpack to get between the Computrekker AW or the R-103. I need to fit a 40D or a gripped 10D with 70-200f/4 attached. I also have a 12" laptop I'd like to bring on travel. I've got other lenses and flash that should be no problem fitting either bag. I've read the reviews on both, but it's hard to decide without seeing and touching each of the bags. I'd like to hear from someone that has owned both, but I'll take any advice at this point. TIA...

I had the Kata R-103, but returned it (it was too big for my needs).

I haven't seen the Computrekker in person (sorry), but I can tell you that the Kata is built like a tank. Looked great, too. I would easily recommend it if you want a backpack.

Looking at the the Kata's and what you would be putting in it I would consider the R102. Smaller than the R103 while offering the same great features.

I haven't seen the Computrekker in person (sorry), but I can tell you that the Kata is built like a tank. Looked great, too. I would easily recommend it if you want a backpack.

Did you have your 40D with the 70-200 attached inside? How was it getting the camera in and out of the bag? If your saying it's too big, maybe I need to reconsider. I will never carry more than 1 body and 2 lenses plus flash at any one time, plus my laptop. I just returned the Slingshot 300 because I thought it was too big and I couldn't put my laptop inside.

I used this bag carrying these lens for a whole week on a holiday in Marrakech and I can say without a doubt that it was a very comfortable bag to wear. Although there is a rear zip opening, I had this locked up with a combi-lock for peace of mind. I had no complaints over access to the camera.

Another thing I would add about the Kata R103 is that it's a flatter bag than many of the other camera bags out there.

In the pic above you'll notice that the flash and the two of the lenses are laid flat in the bag, rather than slotted in upright.

the r102 and r103 are identical except for sleeve to allow laptop to be carried...all dimensions interior wise are the same.

the kata is second to none as far as protection for your equipment and ease of carrying.

I was in the exact same position a couple months ago. Needed a bag to have my 350D/40D+100-400 mounted, and had essentially got it down to these two bags. In the end I went for the R-103: it fits everything in my signature, the 430EX flashgun a 14" Dell Latitude D610 and a bunch more accessories and filters.

I've not owned both, but have certainly handled both. In my opinion, the R-103 is far superior. The padding (both exterior and interior) is more substantial and the build is a lot more sturdy. Also, it fits a lot better to my back than the Computrekker and is very comfortable. And, as others have said, it's very slimline and doesn't really draw attention to itself.

If you go for the R-103 you will not be disappointed. It's an excellent bag.
