Can any one tell me if you can use a ST-E2 from inside the house to fire a flash outside from a window?

The ST-E2 requires line of sight and is distance limited from the outside slave flash. Can you give a little more detail of your setup?

If your TV remote will work through a window then so should the STE2.

I am into bird photography so my feeder is just outside the window and I would like to put my 430ex on a stand and fire it from inside the house from a window to put more light on the subject. Can this be done with ST-E2 or would I need a PW? Thanks

Are you going to be shooting through the window pane? If so, you might have trouble reaching the slave.

That should work. Spin the 430 around with the IR sensor facing the ST-E2, turn on HSS for shooting under the sun.

Yes I am going to shoot from a window pane and was thinking of purchasing a ST-E2 but only if this would work for sure and if some could tell me they have tried it. Thanks

The problem with shooting through the window pane is that part of the IR signal is going to get reflected back into the room by the glass so only part of that signal is going to actually make it to the slave. And that will drastically cut down the working distance of the ST-E2. If the slave is just outside the window, then it may work but not if it's far away.

The feeder is about 20ft. from the house if you have a ST-2E could you try this for me and tell me the results. I dont want to invest the money if it won't work. Then I would look for some a used PWII. Thanks

I have that combo. Test: ST-E2 and the 430 are each about 10 ft from the sliding door with double pane glass. The 430 is under the sunlight.

Thanks for your time and effort in testing this out for me. That will help me in my decision on what to buy. Thanks to all and Happy New Years

A cheaper option...

A long cable fed through the window.
