Any reason why I should buy the BG-E2N over the BG-E2 grip for the 40D? The only difference appears to be some additional weatherproofing but the BG-E2N is double the price!

Whats the view of you all?

Thanks

Tony

You are correct, the weather sealing is the only difference. The BG-E2 is discontinued if that matters to you at all. Personally I ended up with the N just because I couldn't find the non-N version for a price that made buying it worth it.

I agree.... if you can find one get it....there is no real dif...the "weather proofing" is not that rugged...

The sealing is a joke, its just canon being canon.

So now that Ive ordered my 5D to try out I have been doing a little more reading and have learned that the 5D battery grip (BG-E3 I believe) is supposedly built differently (better) than the X0D series ones have been and feels a lot more solid. Anyone have both and car to comment?

If you can get a good price on the BG-E2N, go for it. If not, just get a BG-E2. Its pretty much the exact same thing.

If you can find a BG-E2 get it, the N version is ridiculous. Canon "weather sealed" the grips battery compartment, but there is nothing to stop dust and moisture from getting into the camera body through the bodies battery compartment. Dumb.

I have both--the 5D's grip is definitely much nicer than the BG-E2 grips. Its made out of magnesium, its wrapped in rubber on both sides, it fits the body better, and its noticeable more rigid.

Yeah I agreed. I think probably if you often travel abroad , probably you might the older version at some Asian countries.

Yea thats the same I have heard and have been reading elsewhere. Well I guess Ill be ordering one of those then too and giving that a try as well. I just hope they dont release a new BG-E3N in a month or two when the new 5D Mark II comes out that has something really new added that Im going to want.

Well, if it turns out anything like the BG-E2N, I think you'll be fine. :)
