I got a 10D from ebay today and after turning the camera on, I get the "Err 02" message, which according to the manual, means problem with CF card. I have reformatted the CF card and still it does not work. The same CF card works fine on my Canon G3. Do you know what could be causing this problem, and what could be done to fix it?
Thanks.

Just a long shot...
Look inside the card slot and see if there's a bent pin. If so, return it and get your money back.

That means that either the CF card has a problem, or the CF interface in the camera has a problem.

How did you reformat it?
(1) Quick format in the camera? Unlikely if the camera reports Err 02.
(2) Complete format in the computer? Which file system setting? FAT?
Assuming that you did everything right, then that takes you back to the CF card interface in the camera.

Thanks a lot guys for quick replies. Most likely it's a problem with CF card interface since none of the 3 CF cards are working on this camera, while all of these work on my G3. Will let you guys know if I find something.

Your conclusion may be correct. But maybe not.
How are you formatting the CF cards? I understand they work elsewhere.

I have had the same error 2 problem. I have five CF cards and none of them will work with my camera (10d). I have reformatted all of them in my computer. The camera will not let me reformat them because of the error. The cards are good because they work elsewhere. I am going to find another 10D to reformat them on to see if that works.
How this all started.........I was driving through a small town and I saw a great shot! I turned my camera on and saw that I did not want to shoot with the CF card that was in my camera, so I change to a different one. From there on none of my cards would work.
Does anyone know anything about this problem.

Considering the circumstances (changing a CF card and then immediate failure on all cards) and as someone else already mentioned, it's probably a bent or broken pin. YOu have to look down into the CF slot to tell. If it is a bent pin, you're better off taking it to an Authorized Canon Repair Center. Others that have tried to correct bent pins have discovered just how easy it is to break them.

I have this same problem on my 300d with a PNY 256mb card. I can get about 15 shot or so then after each shot 16 - 17 - 18 and so on I get a Err 02 and those files are corupt. I have 2 other Sandisk cards and they work fine. I reformated the PNY card in the computer and then again in the cam and still has this problem. I am calling PNY about a replacement.

There was a possible explaination posted on the powershot forum:

Looks like it's more to do with the CF cards than the camera itself
