I'm expecting my new Canon S500 Powershot to arrive any day now. Last night I read on Amazon that some people have experienced a so called E18 error, which is a lens barrier/lens unit error. On Canon's website they provide a couple of things to do if you get this error. Have any of you experienced this error? If so how did you fix it?

I received an E18 error about 7-8 months after I bought my camera. The camera in question is PowerShot A520. Since it was still under warranty, I took it to an official Canon repair shop and they replaced the whole lens unit free of charge.

Unfortunately, they don't seem to do it free of charge in every case. Why? Don't know.

I noticed that a lot of people are experiencing the same problem with Canon cameras, so I built an informative web site to help others solve their E18 problems.

I don't think you should worry too much about it. A lot of people never experience it. Those that do, can have it fixed, if the camera is under warranty. If it's not, you can fix it yourself. There are a couple of simple methods you can try yourself.

If you ever need any help with it (I hope you won't :) don't hesitate to contact me.
