I'll be shooting some drag racing on Friday night and it will be my first time out with the Digital Rebel. I will be shooting in raw mode with a Tamron 28-200mm AF LD lens. I borrowed this lens and do not quite know how I should be shooting. I will be around 7pm that I will be shooting. I want to get the picture with the car still and the background blurred. Any suggestions as to what ISO to use and what shutter speed? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I must also mention the cars will be in the 12-16 second range.

Hi Retro,

sure will be fun!

For starters, you might test something really weird and use the 'search' option to search for words like 'drag', 'race' or 'dragracing'

You will come up with threads like this which contain a lot of great information:

As to the ISO ... you'll most likely need something like 800 in order to get reasonably fast shutter speeds. For that, the night shots surely will look spectacular.

... and don't forget your earplugs  !!!

Best regards,
Andy
