Hello, I'm Jason and new to this forum, and new to the world of DSLR.

I was reffered to this forum by a friend, but I do not know his screen name here.

I own a 40D with Canon 3 lenses; a 17-85mm IS, a 70-300mm IS and a f/1.8 50mm. No external flash. I am using Canon's DPP software and Elements 5.0 I got a few years back and only just started using now. CS3 will have to wait for now.

I casually got into photography some years ago with a Pentax SLR. Over the years I have had a few digital P&S cameras, the last being an Olympus SP 350 I bought because it had manual settings.

My real passion is motorcycles, riding the canyons where I live and elsewhere. My motorcycle accident last June left me with some broken bones and titanium in my leg. Riding was my release, but that is gone for now. Hence, the 40D purchase, my new release.

I will be graciously asking for advise and critique in both photography and PP, I want to create better, more dramatic images. PP is probably my weakest area, but believe me I'll need assistance in all areas. Also, I am going back to school and taking digital photography courses.

Oh yes, I'll take a picture of almost anything, but what I really want to capture is motorcycles and the people who ride them. Action and portraits.

Well, I told myself I would not write a novel for an introduction...but I did anyway.

Thanks and looking forward to being a part of this community.

Welcome!

Looks like you've got a good kit with which to start. And, you have a passion on which to "focus" your photography efforts...cool.

Post early and often but most of all, have fun with it.

Good Luck!

Welcome to the forum. Please take some time to look around a bit to get the lay of the land. There is pretty much a thread to answer most questions and sections dedicated to making it easy to find answers. Don't nub it up like alot seem to do and learn about the search feature a month from now.

Cheers

Yep, that bike looks to be in a few bits, looks like an R1 or R6. You did'nt hit that pole did you?

Oh, and welcome to the forums.

BryanGSXR 600. Favorite turn on this road, taken it many times at hard clips. While leading a ride of riders new to the area, and even at posted speed limit the front went out on me at the apex. Gix slides into to and spins around it, I slide into pole square on.

I was very lucky that day. I did not hit my head, did not lose conciousnous [sp] and remained relaxed and calm.

Just one day earlier, I was through that corner under full steam, no issues. I call it karma, and accept it.

OK, enough of the accident.

Thank you for the welcomes, I've been searching around and what a nice site.

Welcome!
Its about time too. I'm surprized you didn't post the before and after pics of your bike, they are very dramatic. Hope you get as much help/info here as I have and can't wait to see your work develope, yeah bad pun I know.

Anyway, this guys got great potential and as others have already noticed a focus on what he wants to do. Just don't ask to see the hole-in-the-leg pictures...

Again, Welcome!

Again, Welcome! You are way too kind, Rich.

This gentleman endured over a month of my insistent pestering about selecting my first DSLR. He warned me of "gray market" products and shady retailers. During this period, I had made up my mind 4 times on a purchase on four different cameras, 3 were Canons.

I am in awe of Rich's photgraphic eye and talents, and he's a cool dude, too!

Once again, thanks all for the warm welcomes. I'm still prospecting the site, what a plethora of knowledge, and what a great mixture of talent from pro to beginner. Cool! :D

Greetings and welcome.
I've already spent the cost of a used first gen Suzuki SV 650 on photography (over $2.5K).

Safer? I dunno. While on a rehab walk, I would take my OLY ps. While snapping pics at a creek behind my condo, I nearly fell down a steep and long enbankment...

Actually, I feel far more safe on 2 wheels than in 4 wheels. I miss it so much.

Well, at least I have a fun and cool release (snap!), and this is a way cool site!!!
