I put a special rider on my household insurance policy. My insurance company was very well versed in it. Depending upon the level of coverage you want it can be expensive.

IC.. thanks...
but doesn't that mean... the equipments are covered only when it is in the house?? It seems in England there are some camera specific insurance cover soma damage while in the field too..

The all risks section is to cover outside the house. It is automatically covered in the house. That's why it's "all risks".

Might also add that, at least for my insurance, the coverage is for no business use only.
So if you are looking for insurance of your camera equipment and are using it to make money then you need to find seperate insurance from your home owners/renters insurance.

I searched around for some quotes a month ago, i got a range from $800/yr. and up to $1125/yr. (In Toronto). This covered an estimated $10 000 worth of equip, up to 5 employees. It was my first time searching for any sort of insurance, i don't own a home or car. I couldn't tell whether that was relatively expensive or not.

Wow - heres an old thread brought to life. It seems like theres a lot of insurance threads lately.

I have insured about $20K worth of computers, GPS, cameras etc as a rider on my house/home office insurance. Covers in the house and on the road. Costs me about $200/years extra.

Why would number of employees make a difference? Your not insuring them are you - just the equipment?

Yan, like others here I have my camera insurance as a special rider on my household insurance. It (the equipment) is covered for just about anything (theft, accidental loss, dropping, drowning, etc.) My philosophy on this is that I insure anything worth over about $1000.00 (Cdn) and self insure (my risk) for anything under this amount. My insurance costs me about $100 to $150 per year for about $10,000 worth of equipment - cameras, lenses, etc. HTH.

I have $6k insured, all perils, no deductible. Costs me about $130/year.

Strangly enough the only place it is not covered under this rider, is the car. There, homeowners takes over.

I own my own consulting business in the aviation industry and am insured with Wawanesa.

So i guess my estimate of $800 to $1125 per year is considered a lot, if not robbery, compared to what you guys are covered for. But then again what you guys are paying is in addition to your home, car, or aviation, etc. insurance.
