First B&W shot, opinions?

Hi,

This is my first attempt at a black and white shot so I'd value your opinions. I converted the original colour image by fully desaturating in Paint Shop Pro.

Taken with my 10D, 28-135 IS USM.

A really nice shot, whilst the period semaphores help give this shot the “authentic” period look, I would be tempted to clone out the one that is emerging from the top of the locomotive.

Where was it taken BTW.

It was taken on the Toddington stream railway in the Cotswolds. I was wondering if there was anything I could have done to improve the contrast in the steam. It seems a little flat to me.

Just had a quick play with it in PS a a slight curves ajustment can really liven up the steam.
