Well ... if they will, we'll see it. If not, not.

So what we learn from that basically is ... don't buy a new 1Ds until the 27th

Best regards,
andy

Canon may have chopped and changed many things but the one constant they have maintained is that their flagship camera is always numbered #1 (EOS 1, EOS 1N, EOS 1V. EOS 1D, EOS 1DS, EOS 1D MkII) so if this beast is in the offing I doubt it will be called a 2D.

my 2p for what it's worth.

They didn´t say it will be a full frame one. It can be the mytical 3D too, so it seems a little high in pixel count for a 1.3x camera.

The 10D was never a 'flagship' camera

They also said all EOS lenses would be interchangeable from now on, but that is not the case with a few of the new ones for the drebels and 20D. Right?

But I would say the flagship will always carry the "1"

EOS-2D with a 22 MP sensor.

But I'd still be able to use my old 64 and 128meg Compact Flash cards, right?!

No, they say all EF lenses will work in all EOS bodies and that's still true. The new lenses are EF-S lenses, a new mount. All EOS bodies are still able to use all EF lenses. Some EOS bodies (the EF-S ones) can use both mounts.

And yes, I also think Canon will keep the 1 in their flagship cameras. That's why they used the "MkII" in the new 1D instead of a different number.

how much will 1Ds cost once 2Ds are out? :?

Ronin

If this is true, Nikon will be screwed once again if the "2D" costs just a little more than the 1Ds.

And it will NOT be called the 2D. If anything, we're looking at a 1Ds MkII.

not as much as the new nikon though

Even with this tremendous resolution, the D2X can comfortably shoot full resolution images at 5 frames per second (up to 21 consecutive JPEGS and 15 NEFs). When the situation demands yet faster frame rates, the D2X has a unique 6.8 megapixel ‘High Speed Cropped Image’ mode that boosts the shooting rate to 8 frames per second, up to 35 consecutive JPEGs or 26 NEF images, by cropping the number of pixels used on the sensor to create the image.

Um, Uh, In the film bodied Canon cameras there was the "1" series as the Flagship, top of the line, or whatever you choose to call it, but firmly entrenched as their undisputed second in line was the venerable A2, & A2e, so YES! IMHO there could very well be a "2D" coming. Just my .02 cents.

Why would they make an "all new" 2D when the current line up would be the 1Ds Mk2, 1D Mk 2, 20D and 300D - isn't everything covered with those 4 cameras? who would a 2D be aimed at, and where would it fit into the line up?

Right between the 1D MKII, and the 20D? The 10/20D has been likened to the ElanII/7 film cameras, so that may still leave the digital slot for the A2/A2e film bodies open.
To be quite honest, I really have no clue as to whether or not there will be a 2D, as this is all speculation anyway. I just thought that as long as we're speculating, why not through this "Pretzel Logic" into the mix?

There is a pretty big gap between the 20D and the 1Dm2. There's plenty of room for a 3D in there, But it won't be 22MP, 8MP is fine. It should have mostly 1Dm2 specs but not the ruggedness, about $2.5k.
