I know this isn't supposed to work but here's my situation.
I shoot sports and shot a field hockey camp last week using my 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS. For me, that's a sort of heavy lens but I like it for cross field shooting (thanks to the 1.6 factor!). But what I found was that I seemed to be getting much sharper results with IS on even when I was shooting moving action. The way I shoot is to follow the action viewing through the lens and then shooting at will, almost always in one-shot mode because that's what I've gotten used to.
Which is another question because I simply can't see any difference (again, the way I shoot) between using one-shot and AI.
Anyway, is the reason the IS is working (if it is) because I'm moving with the action along with the players moving? Or am I really not getting as good shots as I would if I work at using the lens without IS?
I realize that if it works, it works but I'd like to understand a bit more before some critical shot comes up and I blow it because I don't understand the capabilities/limitations of my equipment.
Thoughts welcome and TIA.
