Just want to double check before I buy a CF card. They have a pretty good rebate now.

I wouldn't go beyond 8 GB since even the newer 5D can't format past 8 GB.

The 8GB format limit applies to in-camera formatting. Format a 12GB card in the camera and you will only have 8GB available to use. Format a 12GB card with a PC via a card reader and that full 12GB is available in the camera. So yes, it will work but it with this bit of pain involved to use the entire card.
Whether you really want that much on one card is a whole different discussion - there are a lot of threads on that subject.

Formatting and reading are 2 different things. So long as the file system can be read by the camera it should be fine with an 8gb+ disk, though as stated it might not format a device larger than 8gb. In otherwords with 8gb you hsould be fine regardless.

Never had a problem with the 8GB CF card in my 20D.
