I was the first person to think everyone was crazy to get rid of there 10D's and go wild for the 20D's. Now I am the crazy one.
I just traded my D-rebel for the 10D exactly 29 day's ago, thinking the 20D will take longer to hit the streets and was going to be more expensive. Now that I see the pic's and read the reviews and personal experiences with the camera, I have to get one.
I just got off the phone with Henry's, my local camera shop, and they said there 20D's are due tommorrow (Monday at the latest). They have a 30 day full exchange policy so if I bring it in tommorrow, I will only have to pay the $200 CDN difference and they now have one reserved for me for tommorrow.
I will let you know how my divorce goes.

Dude,
I just took my first pix with the 20D. I can almost cry! It is not similar (almost) in any way to the 10D.
I am stunned.

That's what I am talking about. There is drool everywhere now and all I can do is blame it on the dog's.

I still don't see the difference in image quality, other then high ISO noise levels.
The big advantage of the 20D is speed.......................Dont forget the camera wont make the pictures better, any of us could shoot with a MK II and A.Adams with a disposable and he would probably get better results.
Vinny, you are not crazy don't worry.

I agree, everyone keeps posting these photos they've taken, and dont get me wrong, they look great. But nothing says they were taken from a 20D.
the ISO 1600 shots do indeed look fantastic, and i'd regret my purchase of the 1D if it wernt for the 45point AF (remember, not just for AF, but for spot metering as well!), 1.3 crop, 8fps, size/weight (yeah, i actually like it).
The 20D is a fantastic camera, but i'm happy with what my 1D is doing for me.
More power to ya guys though, it's an awesome camera for sure...it finally shuts all those D70 morons up (The morons would be the guys who bought it because of over saturated photos in reviews. Then come in and bash any camera then the D70...morons dont include Nikon users...just people woh buy things to show them off  )

Even after the release and all I have heard, I would still buy your camera if I had the cash. The 20D is just a camera to truly spank the D70 around even more. Which says one thing that people must not forget, its a camera still being compared to a D70.
To say its better then the 1D Mk II or even close is beyond understanding to me. They are in two different classes for a reason. Don't get me wrong, I would buy a 20D myself, its a great value, but I would not start going absolutely crazy like some people have around the net.

If you need a better camera body, just upgrade it.
Otherwise, it'd be better to upgrade the lenses, tripods / monopods, flash...first.
BTW, what is a 20D? :P

My Comments about the 20D
1. Lightweight body but my hands is too big without the battery grip
2. Fast with the shutter & the buffer is great for doing sports
3. ISO is a big help now I can keep my f/4 lense and get the job done with out going f2.8
4. focusing is much better including the focus points
5. Pop up flash is great it clears the lens hood on my 17-40 f/4
6. I do like the B&W mode and the filters built into the camera even though I'll still use photoshop to edit & convert images.
Overall I'm heavy into youth & semi-pro sports and did not have the extra $$$ to spend on the MArk II. I was tired of switching lens on shoots. I also needed a DSLR for backup & not my Elan II. To me this is not a FAD just a worthwhile investment to keep me in the middle of the action, It is worth the purchase.
If I was only doing portraits, weddings & vacationing I would have never upgraded.
The picture quality is good & I see no big boost over the 10D. Hopefully if someone is out there trying to decide on the purchase this will help them decide. Most important thing is to think about your purpose and go from there. Unless you have the $$ to blow :D

That was my thinking. I had been upgrading len's, tripod's and adding some toy's like the pocket bounce over the last year. It was time for the body to change, hence the 10D last month. However, in my situation, I am on the last day that I can get full value returned on the 10D if I get the 20D. I do shoot mostly action so the 20D will be of a benefit. If it was another 3 month wait to get it or I did not have the exchange option I would not be changing bodies. My wife thought I was crazy to want to change bodies again, but after showing her the changes and explaining that I only have to pay the difference, she said I was crazy if I didn't take back the 10D.
I would love the MKII, but way out of my price range and despite comparisons, definately not in the same league as the 20D.
I was looking at the 1D also, but again, the 20D just barely won the race for my needs.

Which says one thing that people must not forget, its a camera still being compared to a D70.
Indeed. But I will prob still buy a 20D - looks like it delivers sufficiently more bang for the buck than D70.
But if the 20D is THAT good, Canon should feature-enable the DRebel now to bring it more into line with the D70. Maybe there would be a place for DRebel without the software crippled AND the 20D. Then people could and would compare similarly priced D70 + DRebel. Nikon have no 20D equivalent as far as I know...

I can see Canon releasing a 2nd gen D-rebel with the features that the "hack" is giving now to be more competitive with the D70.
