I just ordered 1 B800 Light, 2 Umbrellas, 2 Stands, the reflector kit and bracket to hold the reflector from Alien Bee, a backdrop and a wireless flash unit and a bracket to hold my 530EX on an umbrella. I also got a Sekonic L-308 meter. So I have lots to learn and all winter to learn it:D

My intention was to use the B800 on one side of the subject, set up the reflector to light up the other side and hopefully be able to use the 530EXII for something, not sure what would be the best use for it yet, but I have an umbrella and bracket for it if I can use it that way, if not I have plans for another Bee in the near future.

So my friends, please tell me what I can do with what I have coming, give me something to think about while I wait!! Thanks.

you can use the flash as hair light by positioning it behind the subject with a snoot on it.

Just start experimenting. I think you made good choices for a first kit. You will be able to control your ratio between the light side and the reflector side by the distance away from the subject at which you position these items. Light will fall off (fade) very rapidly at closer distances and not so rapidly at farther distances.

Blonde, you mean I use the 530 as a hairlight with no Umbrella involved right? I will have to look for a snoot, does it fit right on the flash?

Poloman, Thanks, I figured the reflector was my best option for starting oit with just the one light.

This stuff will get me started and get me quality learning time:D

if you can get some gels for your flash you can also use it for a background light. i think :-P oh and you can also use a bunch of straws together for a sort of snoot as well. read that around here somewhere...

I am in the same boat as you. I just got my AB800's and I am starting to play as well.

I got the following:

2 AB800's
1 Brolly Box
1 Large Softbox with grid
2 Umbrellas - one white one silver
Wireless triggers
2 light stands
1 430 EX on a old tripod with a hotshoe PC connection. I have an umbrella holder for this set up as well.

Looking to play...;)

If you have a LumiQuest ProMax System, you already have the Velcro on your flash... To attach their Snoot. :)
